It seems that Justin Bonomo’s hot streak on the live tournament circuit is far from over as the player topped the field of another event last night. The poker super star won the WSOP $10,000 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’em Championship for his second career bracelet from the series and his fourth victory within the past two weeks.
Bonomo claimed the title after emerging victorious from all seven heads-up duels he played within the tournament. He first defeated David Peters, another poker heavyweight, to proceed to the tournament’s official 64-spot bracket. He then faced David Laka to secure a spot into the round of 32 survivors.
There he beat fellow high roller specialist Jake Schindler. The round of 16 saw the eventual champion battle it out against fellow bracelet holder Niall Farrell. The winner from that round was guaranteed a minimum cash from the tournament. The round of 8 placed Bonomo against Mark McGovern. Busting that player, too, put an end to the champion’s Day 1 matches.
Bonomo returned for the semifinals on Friday. He played what turned out to be his most difficult match against Martijn Gerrits. It was a long and action-packed duel that lasted 93 hands. There was a point in the match when Bonomo fell to 8-to-1 disadvantage, which he quickly reduced to eventually resume the lead and defeat his opponent.

Bonomo clashed against Jason McConnon in the final heads-up match. McConnon assumed control over the greater portion of chips early in the duel, but his reign was shortlived as Bonomo grabbed the chip lead on Hand #7 and never looked back.
Hand #59 was the last one dealt in the final heads-up duel. It saw McConnon raise to 150,000 pre-flop and Bonomo shove. McConnon called for his last 781,000 and tabled [Qs][9d] to Bonomo’s [4h][4d]. The latter’s pocket fours held to secure him with the victory. Aside from the gold bracelet, Bonomo also collected $185,965 for his win, while McConnon received a consolation prize of $114,933.
This was Bonomo’s fourth live tournament victory within the past two weeks. The player’s hot streak began with him taking down this year’s Aria Super High Roller Bowl. Bonomo was the last man standing after clashing with poker’s premium high rollers and after a heads-up against none other but the world’s most profitable live poker player Daniel Negreanu. Bonomo scooped his largest live cash of $5 million for his performance in the prestigious high roller tournament.
The player then topped the fields of two $25,000 High Roller tournaments at Aria. One won him $350,000 in prize money, while the other paid $310,500.
Including last night’s cash, Bonomo has now collected $14.5 million in tournament winnings since the beginning of the year and is well on track to surpass Fedor Holz’s breakout year. The German poker player generated $16,093,402 in tournament winnings in 2016.
