Poker pro dedicates his first WSOP Circuit title to his late father
Carl Brewington had a killer run at Horseshoe Southern Indiana over the past two days. The poker pro from Nashville, Tennessee was eventually rewarded with his first WSOP Circuit gold ring for outwitting the 417 entries of the $400 No-Limit Hold’em Monster Stack. He also collected $30,274 to celebrate his big triumph.
The tournament took place over two days, starting October 3. Brewington ran pretty well on that first day of the event, but what really cemented his advantage over the others was a massive pot he scooped on the very last hand dealt for the night.
The eventual champ was already pretty deep at that point, but what came next really helped him boost his confidence into the final day and take down the tournament. On that final hand of Day 1, Brewington had 780,000 which he shoved pre-flop. The player was challenged by a fellow competitor sitting right next to him, who, too, had quite a hefty stack. Kings vs. Aces clashed for what turned out to be a massive pot.
Brewington’s pocket rockets helped him lock that massive pot and the overnight chip lead and put 1.415 million into his bag.
Day 2 Action Highlights
While Brewington was the one to lead a pack of 40 survivors into the second and final day of action, he lost his chip lead some point in play. However, he still maintained his position among the top stacks throughout the day.
He eventually clashed against one-time gold ring winner William Watson heads-up. Watson won his first piece of WSOP Circuit gold last month when he took down a $400 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em tournament at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek.
Brewington and Watson had an action-packed heads-up duel. Chips were swinging back and forth for a while and each of the two finalists managed to double through their final competitor at least once. Eventually, Brewington kicked out his opponent with a queen-high flush to Watson’s jack-high flush. Watson collected $18,708 in a consolation prize for his effort.
A roar of happiness and excitement escaped Brewington’s lungs when he realized that the title and the gold ring were his to collect. The player, who lives in Nashville with his wife and two children, dedicated his victory to his late father. Brewington told WSOP Circuit staff that it was namely at Horseshoe Southern Indiana where his parents last saw him play poker, which made his triumph last night event more special.
The Monster Stack tournament was the eighth gold ring on the schedule of this fall’s WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Southern Indiana stop. This means that there are four more gold rings up for grabs within the festival. The major poker series will be hosted by the popular Indiana casino through October 8. It will then head to Horseshoe Hammond in the Chicago area for another thrilling festival starting October 11.
